Nut Hoard

How to play

2 players. Two squirrels face each other across a tree: six hollows on each side, each holding the same number of hazelnuts, and a stash for each squirrel at the end of their row. The bigger stash at the end wins.

A turn

• Take all the nuts from one of your hollows and sow them one by one into the next places, anticlockwise: your hollows, your stash, then the other squirrel's hollows. You never sow into the other squirrel's stash.
• If your last nut falls into your stash, play again.
• If your last nut falls into one of your own hollows that was empty, and the hollow straight across holds nuts, you take them all, with your last nut, into your stash.

The end

• As soon as one side's hollows are all empty, the game ends: each squirrel puts the nuts left in their own hollows into their stash. The bigger stash wins; equal stashes are a draw.
