How to play
2 players. 12 pieces each on the dark squares of an 8 × 8 board: red at the bottom, moving up; white at the top, moving down.
A turn
- A piece moves one square diagonally forward, onto an empty square.
- Taking is a must: jump diagonally over a piece of the other colour next to yours onto the empty square beyond, and keep jumping while you can. You may choose which taking move to make.
- A piece reaching the far row is crowned, which ends its move. A crowned piece moves and jumps backwards too.
The end
A player with no piece left, or no move, loses. Forty moves each without a piece taken or crowned, or the same board coming back a third time, is a draw.
